Scientific and Technological Research
Over the last few years, the Compagnia has consistently increased its presence in the sector of scientific and technological research, favoring those fields in which there is a closer relationship between basic and applied research, and where this relationship can favorably support the development of its territory.
These fields are, in particular, those of information and communication technologies, of nanotechnologies, and of research on territorial systems.
In the field of information and communication technologies, the Compagnia exclusively operates through the Istituto Superiore Mario Boella and its laboratories, that collaborate with important international centers and projects.
In the area of nanotechnologies – a uniquely transverse field, that on the one hand connects to the study of the structure of matter and the science of materials, and on the other creates a bridge with the research in life sciences – the Compagnia operates by supporting university departments and other research institutions.
In the research on territorial systems, the Compagnia is present through SiTI, an operating body that has developed its own activity along four fundamental directions: logistics, territorial safety, environment and landscape, and the operating support to the Compagnia’s initiatives. This activity extends to many and different themes, including urban transformation and redevelopment, landscape and architectural heritage enhancement, as well as the development of infrastructures and transportation systems, and so on.
A further in-depth study in the coming years will require the commitment to energy research and the relationship between energy and environment, with a view to creating the so called “platform for techno-sciences” in agreement with the institutions.
