Internationalization and International Studies
One of the aspects that most interest the Compagnia is internationalization in a framework that goes beyond the European borders. The Compagnia has supported the development of a United Nations Center in Torino, the start-up of the Study Center on Federalism, and many other institutions and think tanks that deal with the problems of European integration and the relations between Europe and other areas. In addition, the Compagnia is present in many European networks and cooperates with centers and institutes in Europe and across the Atlantic. It has thus become an important reference center for many foreign partners with which it has developed common initiatives.
The Compagnia intends to proceed with these interventions in the field of European and international studies, specifying research themes, consolidating already existing alliances and ties, and continuing with the commitment of bringing to Torino continuous initiatives and activities by those persons and institutions with which it has established (or will establish) long-term cooperations. A primary goal for the Compagnia’s action is the creation of a Center for European Studies able to rise above the fragmentation of activities that can be observed today in this field, and of a center for global/international studies that carries out, in conjunction with the University, a similar role in the field of international relations and of area studies.
As a fundamental strategic goal, that goes beyond the scope of international studies, the Compagnia intends to increase Torino’s ability to attract foreign researchers. Even today, most instrumental bodies carry out their research in an international context, and internationalization is a primary goal for the Collegio Carlo Alberto. The Compagnia intends to favor these connections and make a further step by examining the possibility of creating an institute for advanced studies, based on Princeton’s model or on the model of Berlin’s Wissenschaftskolleg.
