On 7th April 2011 at 16.30 in piazza Bernini Angelo Benessia is opening the presentation of the new Quaderno dell’Archivio Storico (Historical Archives Book): Le figlie della Compagnia. Casa del soccorso, Opera del deposito, Educatorio duchessa Isabella tra età moderna e contemporanea by Anna Cantalupi, Walter E. Crivellin and Bruno Signorelli.
Anna Maria Poggi, Angela Groppi, Marina Roggero and Ester De Fort are taking part.
Actress Manuela Celestino will read some excerpts from the archive document.
The result of wide reaching and in-depth research into the sources of the archive, the work tells the story of the long period of female institutions of the Compagnia di San Paolo. Thousands of girls and young women were accommodated over a period of nearly four centuries, receiving assistance and education.
New pieces of knowledge have emerged on charity and donations, urban and architectural history, the evolution of education and female teachings, women’s conditions, not only as recipients but also as benefactors, as well as in the professional capacity of director, bursars and teachers.
