Michigan looks to the “Torino model” to relaunch its economy

David Egner, director of the New Economy Initiative for Southwest Michigan (NEI) is currently visiting Torino; Aaprt from Piero Gastaldo, he will meet some of the protagonists of recent and ongoing change in Torino, visiting several city sites and research centres including Boella, SiTI, I3P Incubator of the Polytechic.
The visit has been organized through the joint initiative of the Compagnia del San Paolo and of Torino Nordovest, in the context of relations between the same Compagnia and the GMF German Marshall Fund of the United States. The NEI is an eight-year-long project launched in 2008 thanks to an economic commitment (100 million dollars) of 10 foundations both from the Detroit area and other US cities, with a view to contributing to the revitalization and innovation of the economy of the “motor city” and the southern part of Michigan. Egner’s visit will end on Saturday with a trip to Bra, to discover the “Slowfood world”.
